This unit describes the skills and knowledge required to provide an advanced first aid response to a casualty in line with first aid guidelines determined by the Australian Resuscitation Council (ARC) and other Australian national peak clinical bodies.

This certificate has an industry recommended renewal period of 36 months

Prerequisites

Must be 16 years of age and possess good language, literacy and numeracy skills. Individuals undertaking this course will be expected to complete both written and practical assessment tasks.

Participants must have the physical capacity to perform all practical demonstrations including 2 minutes of uninterrupted CPR on the floor and performing rescue breathing techniques on manikins

Course outline

  • Respond to an emergency situation
  • Apply appropriate emergency first aid procedures
  • Coordinate first aid activities until arrival of medical assistance
  • Communicate details of the incident
  • Review the incident 

Application

This unit describes the skills and knowledge required to provide an advanced first aid response to a casualty in line with first aid guidelines determined by the Australian Resuscitation Council (ARC) and other Australian national peak clinical bodies.

The unit applies to all persons who may be required to provide an advanced first aid response in a range of situations, including community and workplace settings.

Specific licensing/regulatory requirements relating to this competency, including requirements for refresher training should be obtained from the relevant national/state/territory Work Health and Safety Regulatory Authorities.
